General Superintendent (FLSA - EXEMPT)

LOCATION

Position is assigned to Corporate Office in Montrose, Colorado with frequent travel to site locations required.

Operations Manager

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Provide support to onsite Project Superintendents and Foremen for purposes of developing operational plans, schedules, and cost controls to ensure high quality, safe and timely execution of work to meet or exceed customer expectations. Oversees and assists with all trade and labor hire, training, transfer and layoff. The General Superintendent is responsible for and will be held accountable for the timely completion of the project and ensuring that the project is constructed in strict accordance with plans, specifications, codes and budgets.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Oversees, manages and facilitates all project phases from planning through final construction including manpower loading, logistic and schedules during pre-construction, early project activities and warranty with Project Managers and Project Superintendents.

  • Oversees, identifies, and manages self-perform performance by all employees, providing any support and assistance as necessary including training.

  • Communicates with Corporate HR Department regarding project staffing needs and assists in staffing process to include reviewing resumes and interviewing and selecting candidates.

  • Coordinates with Project Managers, Superintendents and Foremen to resolve unsatisfactory employee performance and behavior issues.

  • Maintains exceptional knowledge of general construction with a good understanding of heavy civil, marine, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.

  • Provides guidance in implementation of Company Quality Assurance/Quality Control program.

  • Identifies inefficient and deficient work and provides prompt and effective resolution.

  • Provides direction and resolves problems between subcontractors, vendors, customers and employees.

  • Coordinates with subcontractors and vendors to ensure timely and accurate schedule delivery.

  • Provides, reviews and manages schedules and budgets to ensure that projects are completed within planned cost and time with support from office cost controllers and schedulers.

  • Identifies and manages change order and claims.

  • Enforces and promotes company safety program and monitors jobsite general health and safety.

  • Provides exceptional customer service.

  • Manages and supervises cargo loading & unloading operations for bulk materials such as cement, aggregates, fill & equipment, etc. to a chartered tug and barge or vessel.

  • May perform other duties as assigned

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture or related technical field

  • Minimum of ten years of experience as a superintendent or construction manager on $50M to $150M federal construction projects.

  • Proven written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite, Primavera, SharePoint, etc.

  • Familiar with Winest or other estimating software.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Must be able to secure and maintain a Passport and clear an extensive background check to gain approval for access to US Government military bases on Kwajalein Atoll, Diego Garcia and other project locations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Physically, workers must be able to: Work easily and skillfully with hands; Climb and maintain balance on scaffold, ladder and/or scissors lift. See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors; Reach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand tools; Bend, kneel, crouch, crawl and work in small places; and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Per contract requirements on site locations worker must be able to pass a physical exam. Additionally, worker must be cleared by a physician to perform the above noted essential job functions with or without an accommodation on the remote island of Kwajalein, Diego Garcia and other site locations where limited medical facilities may exist. Must be able to travel frequently for extended periods of time both overseas and domestically.
